About the show

The habitat

In the wilds of Battlefield 4 and Halo: The Master Chief Collection lives a small, loud, highly competitive family of players: the C4La squad. They lose often. They talk like legends anyway. And for nine episodes, a very calm naturalist follows them through their habitat.

Season One follows the squad from its origin myth on Blood Gulch to the arrival of a nemesis it cannot beat, a friendly-fire case file, a public-lobby safari, a one-round rival, a rescuer who shows up on the wrong team and, finally, the night the account with Sluggie is settled.

Every episode is cut from the squad's own recordings. Every kill, betrayal and scoreline in the narration was checked against the game's own screen (kill feeds, death screens, scoreboards) before it was allowed into the script.

Cast

The family

hitless simo

Our guide

Really good at charging, and sometimes winning. Most of the season is seen through his eyes.

Loses the duels, keeps the faith, and in the finale lands the knife the whole season was waiting for.

electivesimo

The all-rounder

Good at everything, and brings the sarcasm up a notch.

Wins four public rounds in The Nest, then betrays our guide one capture before Red's winning flag.

ImminentTass

The sniper

A really good sniper.

Two nemeses, two shots in Nemesis. In the finale he catches Sluggie with a pistol, and again on another night.

ImpendingFate

The side-quester

Side-quests so hard the squad calls it a Fate malaise, then snipes for incredible wins.

Filed under the C story in Rival Territories, until he drops Molded Bed through the windows.

Elderlan88

The utility player

The utility player. He finds the hill, and stays on it.

Wins Crazy King in The Nest by standing still, and avenges our guide on CollegeFuture in the finale.

MusicalSimo6358

Fast action

Really good at jumping and shooting.

Arrives late in The Nest and takes second place in her first round.

Shadowknight091

Chaos, then clutch

Runs around shooting everything, sometimes friendlies, then makes the clutch play.

The subject of On The Record, a case file of friendly fire that he keeps asking to have reviewed.

Trigger Support

The rescuer

Usually on a side quest, but somehow shows up with a vehicle at exactly the right time.

Promises to save everyone in The Other Side, then arrives, with a vehicle, on the other team.

The rivals

Sluggie [1Up]SluG

The nemesis

The season's antagonist. The squad's name for him is not a compliment.

The predator the squad cannot beat from Contested Ground on, and 46 kills to 8 in Nemesis. Until The Return.

CollegeFuture

The other nemesis

Declared a nemesis, on the record, in Wave Breaker.

Three kills to none on our guide in Nemesis, and suspected of hunting alongside Sluggie.

Gamer4Life1390

The suspected third

Named by the squad as the third member of the rival pack.

Part of the squad's standing theory, in Nemesis, that the rivals hunt as one.

Molded Bed

Guest rival

A stranger on an enemy team in Dragon Valley.

Two kills on our guide at full health, then paid back three times, in a rivalry that lasted one round.

How it's made

Everything on the record

Every episode is cut from the squad's own recordings. Before a line of narration is written, the moment it describes is found on screen: in a kill feed, on a death screen with its head-to-head count, or on an end-of-round scoreboard. If the screen can't prove it, it doesn't go in.

Squad chatter that contradicts the screen is muted rather than left in. Each episode has its own original orchestral score.
